When a wound does not heal as expected with traditional treatment, a wound care specialist can provide the specialized care that will make a difference. The John C. Lincoln Advanced Wound Care Center uses a multi-disciplinary approach and coordinates care through physicians who are specially trained or certified as wound care specialists.

Our wound management program focuses on caring for chronic, non-healing wounds, as well as wounds that do not respond to traditional wound care. Therapies we offer include advanced wound treatments, wound debridement (removal of damaged tissue), application of skin substitute, podiatry services, compression dressings and total contact casting.

When appropriate, our wound care specialists call upon surgeons, podiatrists and other specialists for their added expertise with each individual patient's care and treatment.

Our Patients

Patients come to our center for a variety of reasons. Often they need wound care for complications associated with other health conditions.

For example, patients with diabetes often have slow-healing wounds and are especially prone to non-healing foot ulcers, due to poor circulation in the feet.

Impaired blood flow can result in other non-healing wounds, such as decubitus ulcers—also known as "pressure ulcers" or "bed sores." Caused by uninterrupted pressure on the skin, pressure ulcers can destroy skin tissue.

Beyond pressure ulcers, other conditions we care for include non-healing surgical incisions and wounds caused by trauma and burns. We see patients in our clinic on a regular basis, usually weekly.

Our Wound Care Team

Physicians and nurses specializing in wound care have training in analyzing wound characteristics, determining why a wound is not healing and formulating a treatment plan. Our physician team includes:

Referrals and Scheduling

  • All patients must be referred by a physician or other licensed health care provider. Surgeons, specialists, hospitalists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and physician's assistants may refer patients.
  • Physicians, licensed health care providers and referral coordinators can refer patients by calling us at 602-870-6055 or faxing a referral to 602-870-6085. We will assist with authorizations and can schedule appointments directly with patients once we’ve received the referral.
  • Physicians on medical staff will receive reports about clinical procedures performed at the center through regular hospital processes. Reports also can be viewed by medical staff physicians through the physician portal.
  • Referring physicians who are not on medical staff will receive reports about procedures performed at the center approximately five to seven days after the procedure.
