The Birthing Center at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital offers a variety of classes to help parents and siblings prepare for the birth of a new baby. Classes are held on the hospital campus at times convenient for a parent-to-be's busy schedule.
Healthy Pregnancy Class
This two-hour class is for parents-to-be who have recently discovered they are going to have a baby. You'll learn about the physical and emotional changes you can expect during pregnancy, the importance of good nutrition, ways to keep physically fit and what to expect during pregnancy. The class includes common concerns and tips for keeping you and your developing baby healthy.
Prepared Childbirth Series
During this five-week series of weekday evening classes, the expectant mother and her coach learn how to prepare for the baby's birth and what to expect during labor and delivery, including the physical and emotional changes the laboring mother may experience. Body-conditioning exercises, breathing and relaxation techniques, and tips for coaches to use during labor and delivery are presented. The series also covers caring for your newborn.
Big Kids Club
Siblings need to prepare for the new baby's arrival too, because they will soon be the "big kid" in the family. This fun class familiarizes children with what it's like to be a big brother or big sister. Children will see where the baby will be born and the important role they have in the baby's life. An adult must accompany children. Registration is required.
Breastfeeding Basics Class
For expectant mothers who plan to breastfeed, mothers having problems breastfeeding now, or those who have not yet made a decision regarding a feeding method, this one-time class presents the facts regarding the benefits of breastfeeding for baby and you. Dad's role and the importance of family support are also stressed.
Tours
To feel comfortable with your birthing experience, you may want to take a tour of The Birthing Center at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital. Tours are co-hosted by The Birthing Center staff and members of the John C. Lincoln Health Auxiliary-North Mountain. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions of staff members and learn more about what you can expect if you have your baby at The Birthing Center. To register for a tour, call (602) 870-6300.
